A Bit About The Doula...

Sarah Everly Certified Doula and Encapsulator

Hi,
I'm Sarah Everly

A trauma informed, Full Spectrum Doula and fierce birth advocate. My story as a Doula starts in 2015, when I had my oldest son and saw my first glimpse into the abysmal state of birth care. I came away from that birth with deep seated trauma that took years to verbalize and process. It would be 6 years before I would begin my practice as a doula, but it was this experience that set me on the path to birth work.

In 2020, as the global shutdowns began taking effect, My husband and I found out we would soon be welcoming our third child. We knew that this baby would close out our childbearing chapter, and this was my final chance at getting the empowered home birth I had wanted from the beginning, Despite what felt like a very intentional pregnancy and birth planning process, I would encounter an entirely different form of birth trauma in September of 2020. I brought my 2 day old baby home in a state of absolute shell shock, unable to wrap my mind around what I'd just experienced.

4 Months later, after weeks of intensive trauma work I would find myself in front of my computer screen, enrolling in a Doula certification program. All I knew in the moment was that there had to be a better way to give birth, and I was going to be an active part of the effort to improve it.

A little over three years and 74 births later I have seen the impact of competent, unbiased childbirth education. I've witnessed how it puts the power of birth back into the hands of the one giving birth, and how well that power is complimented by the advocacy, support, and guidance of a Doula.

Doula support shouldn't just be about preparing you for birth. It should be about preparing you for the entire transformative journey of person-hood to parenthood. As a doula I am passionate about providing continuous support and education from the first trimester through the fourth. I believe you belong in the drivers seat of your birth, and am dedicated to making sure my clients are always spoken to and treated as respected, active members of their care team.

life doesn't Succ, April Tyner

In 2020 a woman named April Tyner opened a small plant shop in my hometown of Hickory, NC. April named her business Life Doesn't Succ, and single-handedly served as a bright spot in the lives of many NC residents through the pandemic. April recently closed Life Doesn't Succ to pursue an exciting career path and graciously gave me the honor of using her namesake. This little plant shop and the charismatic woman behind it re-framed a time in life that ultimately sucked for the majority of people. Her refusal to do anything but love life left every patron of her shop inspired to do the same.

When it came time to name this company I knew I wanted to re-frame birth as the joyful, intentional, and fulfilling act I now know it to be. Our refusal to do anything but embrace the beauty of birth now serves to inspire intentional birth practices, and an unfailing belief in your ability to navigate the birth that lies ahead.
